To create medallions featuring extraordinary depth and texture, our trained artisans first produce a hand-designed plaster sculpt. This three-dimensional sculpt is then used to create the steel coining dies. The finished product is a medallion with exceptionally deep relief that you can see and feel.
Once the medallion is done, we use it to create the dies.
Note: This process is not utilized for every design, but, it may be an option that you want to consider for your custom piece.

The 'Lydian Lion' is an early 6th century BC coin from Lydia, and is considered to possibly be the earliest coin ever minted in the Western world. Small as a dime and thick as a small pebble, this coin was minted around 600 BC in Lydia, Asia Minor (current-day Turkey), a country in close proximity to both the civilizations of Mesopotamia, from which ideas about money and much else originated, and the Greek colonies in Asia Minor, through which ideas about coinage and much else spread.
